May 1935 marked 25 years of King George V as King and was celebrated with large-scale and popular events throughout the country.

This photo shows Wendy Howard, daughter of Leeds comedian Sydney Howard presenting mugs to the pupils of South View School in Yeadon.

Sydney, who appeared in a number of feature films during the 1920s and 1930s, had provided the mugs and intended to be there himself, but had been taken ill on holiday in Cairo.
