THE leader of Leeds City Council says Leeds United legend Jack Charlton will never be forgotten and neither will his impact on football.

Whites legend and England World Cup winner Charlton passed away on Friday aged 85 after a long-term illness.

Charlton joined the Whites at the age of 15 in 1950 and went on to make a club record 773 appearances for Leeds over a 23-year period as a player.

His influence on the city then remained strong after retirement and Councillor Judith Blake, the leader of Leeds City Council, has paid tribute to a "legend in English football."
