Non-League: Goal-shy Guiseley still rooted to bottom of the table

This was always going to be a tough game for the side and after going in a goal down at half-time they conceded three more times. Interim player-manager Sean St Ledger said afterwards: “It is a disappointing result. “We’ve played one of the best sides in the league but some of the goals conceded were not good enough, we have to focus now on Barrow.” Guiseley were facing a side competing for promotion, who started the day second in the table. There was an end-to-end start, with both teams looking confident. The Lions, who won their last match, had a good chance when John Rooney hit a fine effort that looked bound for the top corner, but Jamie Butler somehow made the save. Soon after, though, it was Sutton who took control and they didn’t look back. Keiron Cadogan had the hosts first chance when his effort from distance forced Luke Coddington into a smart stop. Sutton took the lead when a long throw wasn’t properly cleared and it fell to Terrell Thomas who could not miss. This was the lead that the U’s had going into half-time. A good start was needed by Guiseley in the second half, but they were soon 2-0 down when a ball into the area wasn’t dealt with properly and Byron Harrison, from six yards out, made no mistake. Sutton were pulling away and soon made it 3-0 when Kyle Eastmond was found by a cut-back and again had a simple finish. Things then went from bad to worse as Harry Beautyman scored directly from a corner with his cross/shot hitting the inside of the bar before going in. There was time for Guiseley to try and grab a consolation but Rowan Liburd, when through one-on-one, missed the target. Guiseley now face a crucial game against Barrow on Tuesday night. EVO-STIK Farsley Celtic made it three consecutive wins for the first time since early October as they ground out a 1-0 win over basement side Sutton Coldfield Town, writes THOMAS RITCHIE. Just like the previous weekend, it was a second-half Ryan Watson strike that earned Farsley the victory, whilst back-to-back clean sheets are evidence of an improving defence. The first-half was a dour affair as both sides struggled to find any rhythm, and the best chance fell to Farsley’s Will Wells as his header was saved by Sutton goalkeeper Jonathan Brown just before the interval. Sutton Coldfield were the better side in the opening moments of the second half, and just before the hour mark Louis McGrory’s free-kick produced a wonderful save low down from Graeme McKibbin. Niall Flint was the next to come close for the hosts after some neat build-up play, before lashing his strike into the side netting. Jonathan Brown was then forced into action to push Ryan Watson’s long-range strike over the crossbar. With Farsley starting to dominate, it was substitute Kurt Harris who almost broke the deadlock, heading Watson’s corner agonisingly wide. With the game seemingly heading towards a stalemate, it was left to Watson to win the game for the Celts, letting fly from 25 yards out, his strike taking a deflection and finding the back of the net. In Division 1 South, Frickley Athletic are now four games without a win following a 3-2 defeat to Bedworth United. Goals from Thomas Dugdale and Jacob Hazel put Frickley 2-0 up after an hour, before Bedworth stunned the visitors with Iyseden Christie, Levi Rowley and Luke Keen all on target to complete the turnaround. Elsewhere, Tadcaster Albion eased to a 4-0 victory over Droylsden in Division 1 North, courtesy of a Josh Barrett brace, and further strikes from Billy Whitehouse and Chris Howarth. Second-half goals from Jason Yates and Charlie Freeman helped ten-man Ossett Town to a 2-0 victory away to Ramsbottom United, after Kane Bingley was dismissed in the first half. Ossett Albion were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Prescot Cables, whilst Brighouse Town were hammered 4-0 by Colwyn Bay. NCE League Mike Garrod hit a hat-trick as mid-table Thackley overran basement side Clipstone 6-0. That said, most of the overrunning took place in the first half, the period in which all the goals were scored. Credit Clipstone, therefore, in stemming the tide. Luke Robinson added two goals in seven minutes (22nd and 29th minutes) and Jordan Hines completed Thackley’s goal scorers. Nash Connolly scored a first-half equaliser for Hemsworth MW, but hosts Handsworth Parramore proved too strong, in the end running out 4-1 victors. Harrogate Railway Athletic were still in contention at half-time, drawing one apiece with visitors Bridlington Town thanks to an Andrew McHugh goal, but the east coach outfit struck twice more after the break to clinch the win. Rhys Davies tucked away a first-half penalty to give Liversedge the edge over Barton Town, but the visitors rallied after the break to see off Sedge 3-1. Pickering Town maintained their presence among the top four in the Premier with a rousing 5-1 victory over mid-table Worksop Town. Ryan Blott got Pickering off the mark with a goal in the sixth minute and doubled his personal tally with a second on 53. Billy Logan also bagged a first-and-second-half brace, netting on 20 and 62 minutes as Pickering built on a 3-0 half-time advantage. Joe Danby scored the other goal on 39 minutes. Pontefract Collieries kept their noses in front of Pickering on the top-flight ladder thanks to a 3-2 home win over Hall Road Rangers. Arron Moxam (16, 63 pen) and Jack Greenhough (18) scored for Colls, who led 2-1 at half-time. In Division One, Knaresborough Town won 4-0 at Brigg Town, Yorkshire Amateur edged out hosts Campion 3-2, Glasshoughton Welfare saw off East Yorkshire Carnegie 2-0, Nostell Miners Welfare lost out 2-1 at home to Grimsby Borough, Selby Town saw off visitors Armthorpe Welfare by the same margin, and Worsborough Bridge Athletic were held to a goalless draw by AFC Emley.
